Fierce dragons bare their fangs at a leering skull in this striking ring from Balinese designer Komang Wijayana. Sterling silver with oxidized contrasts accentuates the vivid details on this dramatic design for men.
.925 Sterling silver
I saw this design and it resonated with me about duality, death, and transformation. It is a really compelling piece with the two dragons flanking a skull. The symbology in Balinese culture of the dragons represent good and evil forces. The tails of the overlap without touching making it easy to adjust the ring size. The skull I think represents neutrality, but also could be a symbol of strength, transformation, or ancestral spirits. It has a gothic feel without the focus on excessive morbidity but the circle if life. It was pristine when I first got it, but a little oxidation of the silver is happening which brings out the details when I shine it up again. It has imperfections which reveals its origins, probably from a hand carved mold by the artist. I wear it sometimes with my Balinese silver chain as a talisman. I really appreciate Novica for bringing the artistry and craft from other cultures to the world. Thank you Komang for this lovely bold piece.
