"I prefer however to compose with lines, colors, and forms and listen to the song that invades my spirit when I am working on a painting."
“It is strange to talk about or describe painting – a painting is for the eyes only. It is something made with the hands, with the body, just to serve them. The pleasure of seeing. The pain of creating. The need to recreate again and again, endlessly…The silence of arduous work in the studio in order to combine, remember, forget, and so the images become personalized and are born for the eyes in accidents on the brink of both absence and presence. This is the great mystery of creation: how much of the creator is present and how much is absent.
“I work daily, I continue, I am surprised; the persistence of the eye, but for what? Everything else more becomes superfluous. There is a moment when everyone in our world becomes reduced in that image that is present, transpiring emotions. Everything seems to be said in the brush strokes, the colors, the transparencies, rhythm, mute and eloquent expressions, ambiguities, discomforts, surprises, registers, characters, in the silence of the eye by whom it is executed and by whom it is seen.
“My technique – if there actually exists a technique – is to work with a canvas as support for acrylic, vinyl, and oil paints. I like to make my own colors, combining the mixture of pigments with acrylic resins or oils. I am never hurried. I try to be alone in the workshop. I love to work with paper. I often stick my works in paper onto the canvases, becoming integrated into other similar situations. Often, the original work that I glued on becomes entirely different through the infection of marginalization.
“Nature and music have always been integral parts of my life; the first in minute contemplation and the second in the profound study of the piano. I prefer however to compose with lines, colors, and forms and listen to the song that invades my spirit when I am working on a painting. I prefer not to name my works. I have the feeling of making a unique work, begun in the moment that I made the decision to dedicate myself wholly to painting. It was a difficult decision, but it is much harder to say when a work is actually finished.”
