Details

Saúl Montesinos' admiration of pre-Hispanic Mexico guides him in the design of this spectacular Day of the Dead sculpture. Crafted and painted by hand with admirable detail, this skull wears the headdress of the Jaguar Warriors. The Aztecs believed the jaguar to be associated with the god of night, and to become a jaguar warrior one had to capture at least four enemies. Jaguar Warriors were used to capture enemies to be sacrificed to the gods. They would wear jaguar fur and claws, for they believed those items would make them stronger and braver.
