Traditionally worn for sacrificial rites, these Inca masks were considered as amulets to communicate with the apus (gods) and ask for their favor. Jaime Zapata handcrafts the masks from a combination of papier-maché and plaster of Paris; the masks are adorned with jute headdresses.
From my travels in South America and my knowledge of Incan culture (I'm a retired Spanish teacher), these masks are great replicas of typical Incan artifacts.
