Delfina Ruiz is inspired by Pre-Hispanic beliefs for the design of this Zapotec wool rug featuring Ozomatli, a dancing monkey. Day 11 of the Sun Stone or Aztec calendar is dedicated to Ozomatli, associated with dance, art, beauty, and harmony. On that day people were expected to join their lives to art, be it in their speech, dress and behavior, in order to make their lives more beautiful and harmonious. Ruiz weaves the yellow rug on a traditional pedal loom, detailing the legendary glyph in blue.
