Details

Working in a folk art style, Balinese artist Wayan Suparta paints this composition that draws from the Hindu story about the search for Tirta Amerta, the elixir of life. The first sequel to the Hindu epic Mahabharata, this story tells of gods and giants that seek to find this fabled elixir. It is said that this holy water granted immortality to the pantheon of Hindu gods. In watercolors, acrylics, and ink, this painting depicts the various figures involved in that story.
