Artisans Jacqueline y Mónica of El Salvador handcraft this cotton shawl, which can also be worn as a scarf. The artisans create a pattern of white diamonds on the natural indigo background using the itajime dyeing technique, which is similar to tie-dye except rather than using string or bands, the resist is created by clamping blocks in the desired shape firmly onto the fabric wherever the dye is unwanted. Light and airy, this shawl is a year-round accessory.
