"The Gueguense is a very important folk dance in Nicaragua, representing protest against colonial rule with texts that originated in the early 1700s. I want to share our traditions through this collage," Juan Carlos Moreno says. He depicts a colorful dancer in a horse mask wearing a feathered headdress. Recycling dried corn husks, the artist dyes the natural fibers and mounts the composition on card stock. A coat of resin protects the images, which are presented in a mat board passe-partout.
