Woven by hand on a backstrap loom, this cotton bracelet represents the traditional textiles of Guatemala. Karina Mercedes Canova designs the piece with fuchsia leather and pinewood beads to wrap around the wrist. "I created this design in honor of the jaguar, considered divine by the ancient Maya," she explains.
The weavings are created entirely by hand. The motifs can vary slightly, according to the artisan's inspiration, making each bracelet unique.

"As a designer, my main work is to make the world aware of the richness of Maya culture. Guatemala is the cradle of this unique civilization. When you choose my handbags, you are acquiring a piece of history because the Maya weaver combines creativity and tradition in every textile. This is why these handbags are unique. You are also fostering the continued use of the backstrap loom so that this art will be taught to future generations and not be lost."
Karina Mercedes Canova has received a $300 microcredit loan with 0% interest. Proceeds were used to purchase raw materials such as quality leather and hand-loomed textiles.
