From the handicrafts mecca that is Tlaquepaque, Mexico, comes this vibrant hand-painted skull by Maria and Esteban. Dark eyebrows frame a smiling cerulean face while small maize-colored flowers and festive peacocks in tangerine and fuchsia adorn the back and sides. Bold explosions of color characterize Mexican folklore, and this decorative skull is an excellent example of this tradition.
Maria and Esteban have six sons, two of whom are being financially supported by the income They make at NOVICA.
Through personal dedication and increased access to the global market that Novica provides, Esteban and Maria have been able to increase their sales exponentially since they first started working with NOVICA. Their unique style and will to constantly learn have allowed the couple to continue moving on up.
Maria's children use traditional techniques taught by her, her husband, and elder members of the community to create jewelry, decor accents and accessories out of authentic culturally significant materials.
Maria and Esteban's profits from the crafts they makes for NOVICA allows them to create and financially support a healthy life for themselves and their children.
My daughter has sort of a thing about sculls. This one is so joyous. It has beautiful symbols, flora and fauna. The colors glow. I have to wait awhile for her birthday, but I wanted to be sure to get it. What a delightful piece of art.
