This fascinating pair of earrings comes from the creative mind of designer Ali Mohammed. Hand carved from ebony wood, each earring features an Adinkra symbol called Akofena, which is an Akan word for a royal ceremonial sword or "sword of war". The Akofena symbolizes bravery and valor. Adinkra symbols are believed to have their origin in an ancient kingdom that once stood where Ivory Coast is today in West Africa. The eye-catching design hangs from brass hooks.
Ali financially supports the education of two of his own children and two others in primary school.
Ali Mohammed has received 6 microcredit loans with 0% interest from Kiva and Novica, the first for $200 and the most recent for $2000.
