In this hand made arpillera wall hanging, artisan Leonor Quispe of Peru creates her interpretation of the creation allegories of "The Forbidden Tree" (El Árbol Prohibido) and "The Tree of Life" ( el Árbol de la Vida). On one side, Adam and Eve stand beneath the Forbidden Tree, resplendent with ripe red fruit and with the tempting snake coiled around its trunk. On the other, the Tree of Life is teeming with a multitude of animals. The artist embroiders the names of the two allegories in Spanish above the two mountains in the background, which are connected by a rainbow. An opening in the back of the arpillera allows for inserting a display rod for easy hanging.
