Cotton scarf, "Star Blessings"
"The stars and the rhombus-shaped rings symbolize the mines and jewelry that is unique to Alta Verapaz," Ixbalam Ke Women Weavers explain. The rings signify the union between people, as well as between cultures, and the stars symbolize a blessing. The cotton scarf is woven on a traditional back strap loom while the fringe is braided and tied by hand. The openwork or Pikbil patterns are repeated in bands across the elegant scarf.
