Based on traditional Ghanaian artistry, this elegant mask boasts modern colors. Ali Mohammed creates an original design of graceful lines. Carved by hand of seasoned sese wood, it depicts the Ghanaian adinkra symbol known as sankofa on the forehead, while a third bird alights in the center. The sankofa depicts a bird that turns to look over its shoulder. It literally means to "go back and get it," also translated as "back to my roots." Sankofa symbolizes one taking from the past what is good and bringing it into the present.
Ali financially supports the education of two of his own children and two others in primary school.
Ali Mohammed has received 6 microcredit loans with 0% interest from Kiva and Novica, the first for $200 and the most recent for $2000.
