Elegant patchwork depicts peacocks and fish that explore a dreamy, floral world. Crafted by hand, this cotton quilt from India is presented by Chinni Swamy. Each patch is elaborated with intricate printed motifs that come together for a kaleidoscopic composition. Embroidery is diligently applied to the front of the quilt, featuring a solid color in wheat on the opposite side. A light polyester filling gives it a comfortable feel.
Chinni runs a local school, the Purkal Youth Development Society, that provides free education, books, uniforms and daily meals for 500 students. Many of these children have been able to pursue higher education and find good jobs as a result of this early childhood education program.
A true advocate for human rights and gender equality, Chinni has transformed thousands of lives and uplifted her community. With her fair trade workshop, which she began "with the sole aim of empowering women in the area," Chinni has helped more than 50 women develop the skills they need to earn a sustainable income. Always ambitious to do more, Chinni also runs a local school that provides free education, books, uniforms and daily meals to over 500 students in India.
