Joseph Boateng finds inspiration in the customs of the Ashanti people to designs this original wall mask featuring a smaller face on the horned headdress. The Ghanaian artisan carves the sese wood mask by hand and decorates it with painted details representing the Ashanti's traditional scarification patterns on the face. Known as donkor, they are performed on babies for protection, with the belief they will scare evil spirits and death.
