Inspired by the customs of the Ashanti people, Joseph Boateng designs this original wall mask featuring a smaller face on the horned headdress. The Ghanaian artisan carves the sese wood mask by hand and decorates it with painted details representing the Ashanti's traditional scarification patterns. Known as donkor they are performed on babies for protection, with the belief they will scare evil spirits and death.

"What a beauty!!!"
I congratulate Joseph Boateng, and Novica too. Artists and their art find a special place not only in homes, but also in hearts. This Donkor Mask is one such example. Beautifully crafted and a definite conversation starter, this is truly a collectors delight. Thank you for letting me know a little bit of history and its treasures. Best wishes, Joydeep Biswas, Bangalore. India
