The Moche people of northern Peru revered the owl as a symbol of wisdom yet they also feared it, for as a creature of the night, they associated it with death too. Walter Jose Acosta sculpts an admirable ceramic replica depicting an owl with pointed ears standing on strong legs. It is surrounded by a two-headed serpent.
